The brain goes through tremendous changes during the teenage years

Almost half (280K pdf file) of all college students experience negative moods, but about 15 percent (90K pdf file) can be characterized as clinically depressed (32K pdf file).

Clinical depression is not a mood (410K pdf file) that one can “snap out of” or “grow out of.” It is comparable to being diabetic, or having high cholesterol. Like these situations, clinical depression requires medical treatment. If not treated correctly, the consequences can be dire – an estimated 1,100 college students take their lives every year.
