5 Things Happening this Mental Health Month

National Mental Health Awareness Month

This month, we’re honored to collaborate with great partners to amplify the conversation around mental health and provide helpful resources you can use. Here are 5 things you should know about this month.

1. NBA Cares – Mind Health

The NBA unveiled a new web resource and powerful PSA with Kevin Love and DeMar DeRozan talking openly about their struggles with mental health. These resources are part of league-wide efforts to encourage mental wellness and help communities view mental health as equally important to physical health. We’re excited to advise and collaborate on this new initiative. Learn more and access resources from JED and others at nba.com/mindhealth.

2. Dear Evan Hansen “You Will Be Found” Mental Health Symposium

Dear Evan Hansen is joining forces with TIME and philosophy for a “You Will Be Found” Mental Health Month symposium featuring a performance by the DEAR EVAN HANSEN cast, and a conversation with book writer, Steven Levenson, along with Rowan Blanchard, representatives from Child Mind Institute and National Crittenton, and our own John MacPhee. Tune in live on Facebook on Thursday, May 10 at 3:30pm ET!

3. National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day 2018: Partnering for Health and Hope Following Trauma

We’re partnering with SAMHSA on an event focusing on the importance of an integrated approach to caring for the mental health needs of youth and young adults who have experienced trauma, as well as their families. Tune in live on Thursday, May 10 at 7pm ET and join the Twitter chat on May 9 at 2pm ET using #KidsAndTrauma #HeroesOfHope.

4. Seize the Awkward

Conversations about mental health can be awkward, but they can make a big difference. #SeizeTheAwkward and talk about mental health this month. Learn how at seizetheawkward.org and @seizetheawkward on Instagram. Use this mental health month toolkit to spread the message on social media and stay tuned for more personal story videos.
