Introduction

The Jed Foundation (“JED,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a nonprofit organization and leader in the protection of emotional health and preventing suicide and substance misuse among teens and young adults.

JED works with school districts, high schools, colleges, universities, other schools, and organizations (“Schools”) to strengthen their policies, programs, and systems to help reduce risks for suicide and substance misuse and promote emotional well-being. Through this website, The Hub by The Jed Foundation, JED provides resources, runs workshops, and carries out various aspects of JED’s programs for Schools, including certain engagement with students, parents, faculty, administrators, and staff (“JED Programs”). Your access to this Website is because you are affiliated with one of the Schools with which JED has been working. The terms and conditions of your access are governed by the agreement between JED and such Schools.

JED respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it through our compliance with this privacy policy (“Policy”). This Policy describes the types of information we may collect from you or that you may provide when you visit the website hub.jedfoundation.org (our “Website”) and how we may use it. By using this Website, you are consenting to such collection and use. 

This Policy applies to information we collect:

  • On this Website.
  • In email, text, and other electronic messages between you and this Website.
  • When you interact with applications on third-party websites and services, if those applications or include links to this Website and/or this Policy.

This Policy does not apply to information collected by:

  • Us offline or through any other means, including on any other website operated by JED or any third party; or

Personal Information JED Collects

JED collects data that you provide to us or one of our service providers when you use the Website. 

“Personal Information” is information that, alone or in combination with other information, could be used to identify you or your household (“Personal Information”). Personal Information is covered by this Policy. Specifically, this Personal Information includes without limitation your:

  • Phone number

  • School-issued IDs 
  • User ID
  • IP address 
  • Descriptive information, e.g., age, gender
  • Any other information you elect to provide in response to questions and assessments available through our Website that is associated with you and not anonymized.

This Website may collect information that is protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”). In accordance with FERPA authorization, except for your school-issued login credentials you use to login to this Website, we may collect your self-reported Personal Information that is subject to FERPA (“FERPA Personal Information”) through your use of this Website. Our collection of this FERPA Personal Information is authorized via partnership with your school and your FERPA Personal Information will only be used by us as authorized by your school.

Other Data JED May Collect

We may collect other information about users whenever they interact with our Website that is anonymized or otherwise are not associated with you or a specific individual. Depending on how you use our Website, this may include the device type, login session durations, task or activity completion, and any anonymized responses to the Website or any assessments. Where these data points (i.e., usage information), are not stored or connected to your Personal Information, they are viewed as aggregate and de-identified data and are not subject to this Policy unless otherwise required by applicable law.

Personal Data from Children Under 13

The Websites are not directed at children under the age of 13. If JED knows that a user is under the age of 13, we will NOT intentionally collect Personal Data without parental consent. If you become aware that a child has provided us with Personal Data, please contact us at support@hub.jedfoundation.org. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with Personal Data, we will remove such information.

JED’s Collection and Use of Personal Information

JED processes your Personal Information in connection with JED Programs, including as follows:

  • To enable you to participate in one or more JED Programs for which this Website is an interface
  • To contact you
  • To maintain our Websites and provide user support
  • To monitor usage data
  • To maintain the security of Personal Information collected and processed our Websites
  • To provide data to our educational and other partners
  • To provide training
  • To manage our databases
  • To use third-party applications that support JED Programs
  • To meet our legal, regulatory, and compliance obligations

JED does not sell your Personal Information nor does JED provide it to unrelated third parties. 

JED Programs are supported by third-party applications and service providers. We may share the Personal Information we collect from you with our affiliates, contractors, and other third parties where applicable legal requirements are met in order to carry out JED Programs, including for data analytics and other processing.

Cookies and “Do Not Track” Signals

Cookies are collected to help us monitor usage patterns and to help us improve the Websites. We may use cookies and similar technologies to gather Personal Data, such as information about the Internet Protocol address assigned to your computer or mobile device, the number and frequency of visitors, and the pages you visited. Personal Data collected through cookies may be used by us or shared with third parties who help us maintain our Websites. By using our Website, you consent to the use of cookies.

From time to time, JED may use the personal information we collect to contact you or to send you news and information relating to JED, the vital work we do in emotional health and preventing suicide. By providing personal information to us, you consent to us contacting you for this purpose.

If JED reorganizes or transfers its business, it may transfer any data or information it has collected to the reorganized entity. JED may also disclose Personal Information to third parties if you expressly authorize JED to do so, or if JED is required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to: 

(a) comply with applicable law or if legal process is served on JED; 

(b) protect and defend the rights or property of JED or the users of JED; or 

(c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of JED or the public.

The Websites may contain links to other sites or applications that are not operated by us (even if a third-party Website or the third party is affiliated with JED through a business partnership or otherwise). If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that third-party’s site. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third-party sites, applications, or services. Accordingly, we strongly advise you to review the privacy policy of every site and application you visit.

Data Retention

We will retain your information for as long as needed to provide you services, pursuant to this Policy, or as required by law. We may need to retain certain information for record keeping purposes, and there may also be residual information that will remain within our databases and other records, which will not be removed from such locations. 

Data retention is governed by JED’s data retention and destruction policies and procedures applicable to HUB data.

Security 

We use commercially reasonable efforts to follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the Personal Information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or via mobile device, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect information about you, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

From time to time, we may update this Policy to reflect changes in our service, the law, or otherwise. Accordingly, it’s important to check the Effective Date posted at the top of this Policy each time you visit our Website to ensure that you are familiar with our latest policies and practices. The Websites are operated and maintained within the United States. Although you may access our Websites from outside the United States, any Personal Data collected by JED may be transferred, processed, or used in the United States.
