Give Through Your Retirement Account
Known as a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) or IRA charitable rollover, these can help you reach your required minimum distribution while saving on taxes.
Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs)
Support JED’s vital programs and receive tax benefits in return!
If you are age 70½ or older, you can give any amount up to $105,000 (in 2024) from your individual retirement account (IRA), directly to JED without having to pay income taxes on the amount.
To initiate your QCD:
Step 1
Seek advice from your financial or legal adviser to determine if a QCD is right for you and understand the relevant guidelines for tax benefits.
Step 2
Contact your retirement plan administrator regarding your required minimum distribution for this year. Ask to elect a qualified charitable distribution to The Jed Foundation (Federal Tax ID Number: 13-4131139) in the amount you choose.
Or use our QCD Tool! We’ve partnered with FreeWill to help make this easy for you.
Initiate Your QCD
Step 3
Follow the instructions from your retirement plan administrator or our QCD Tool to submit your request for a QCD to JED.
Step 4
Let our team know that you have initiated a QCD gift to JED. It is possible that your plan administrator will not share your information with us, and we want to make sure to thank you and ensure that your gift is used as intended.
Step 5
Once JED receives the QCD gift through your plan administrator, you will receive a confirmation acknowledgment.
